Negative space turns the background into part of the logo - a hole that reads as a letter, an arrow, or a second object inside the silhouette. Logo Lattice's cutout brush removes filled area instead of adding it, so you can carve shapes out of existing geometry.
Start with a solid base
- Draw a filled shape - a circle from the Shape tool (5) or a custom polygon on the grid.
- Set your fill colour in the Style panel. This base shape is what you will cut into.
- Switch the draw brush from Draw to Cutout in the left toolbar (scissor icon).
Punch a hole
With cutout active, draw a closed polygon inside the base shape - for example, a triangle cut from a circle to suggest a play button, or a rectangle through a square to form a letter I. The cutout area becomes transparent, revealing whatever sits behind the logo.
Layer multiple cutouts
Each cutout operation punches through the current filled region. You can stack several holes in one shape, or cut through overlapping shapes to create more complex silhouettes. Undo (Ctrl/Cmd+Z) if a cut goes too far.
Export with transparency
On the PNG tab, choose Transparent so cutout holes stay see-through. SVG export keeps holes as proper compound paths for vector editors. For favicons or app icons, use the export guide to download the right package.
